Use Your Keyword / Phrase in Your Post Title

Use the keyphrase in the title of your post and in your title tags.

Choose One Keyword / Phrase, Then Write or Tweak Your Article

Find a keyphrase with little competition; but you do want it to have some search traffic (greater than 500). Then write an article that targets that keyphrase or go back through some of your older articles and tweak them for a specific phrase.

Repeat the Keyword / Phrase in Your Article

Include your keyphrase in the first paragraph. This will have little impact on your rankings, but will show your readers that they're in the right place.

Focus on Low-Competition Keyword / Phrases

Don't waste your time going after highly competitive keywords with on-site optimization because you won't be able to rank for them, at least not yet. Take one of the phrases you found while doing keyword research, type it into Google search using quotations, e.g. "how to install WordPress", and then look at the number that appears below the search box. If the number is large (over 25,000), avoid it because it's highly competitive. If it's small, it's easier to score a higher ranking.

Use the Keyword / Phrase in Your Meta Description Tags

Using keywords in your meta description tags doesn't help you rank higher, but when people search Google for a specific keyword(s), Google bolds it in the search results. It won't help you rank higher, but will encourage people to click on the search results.

Find Images Related to Your Keyword / Phrase

When you publish your articles, find related images and use your keyphrase in the alt description of your image.

Summary of the Components Your Article Should Have

If you have a picture for your article, name it the same as the keyphrase you're trying to rank for, e.g. keyphrase = network marketing leads, your image should be named network-marketing-leads. I generally go with about 400x300 in size, 256 colors, save as a ".jpg" or ".png". When you put the image in your blog post, link it to your article post slug (url of the article). Make the "alt tag" for the picture the same as the keyphrase.

You should have at least 1 of each:
H1 tagH2 tagH3 tagUnderline tagItalics tagBold tag

In the first paragraph, try to use the keyphrase twice; make this your H1 tag and link the specific keyphrase to the url of the article. When this article gets placed on other blogs or websites, it creates a link back to this article (backlinks). What I typically try to do is use the keyphrase in the first paragraph, bold it, underline it, and put it in italics; this way I kill 4 birds with one stone (as shown above).

In the second or third paragraph use the keyphrase again; make this paragraph your H2 tag. In a paragraph toward the end of the article use the keyphrase again; make this paragraph your H3 tag.

For the post tags, use the keyword and related phrases, this is where the Google keyword tool will help you find related keywords. 5-10 good keywords will usually suffice. Your main keyphrase should be used roughly once per every 100 words; the length of the article should be roughly 450-600 words.

You can also use various WordPress plugins that will help you optimize your blog posts; there are many good SEO plugins that will assist you in following these basic techniques, tell you what you're missing, and score your article.

If there are keywords that have little competition, and it's relevant to your business, then by all means craft content around it. Lately, because there is so much competition on the market for typical keywords, the focus has shifted to using long tail keywords. For example, instead of using "pasta" as you keyword, you would use "pasta with red clam sauce." The logic in using long tail keywords is that there should be less competition for more exact keywords through the search engine.

Don't be a content farm

As mentioned earlier, Google's focus is improving the quality of its search engine for its users. If you are running a site that is keyword focused with little or no relevant information on the particular subject, you may find yourself banned by Google. If you are like most internet marketers your goal is to land on the #1 page of Google without having to pay top dollar. Today, I'll show you a few key strategies you can learn right now in order for Google to notice you.

When it comes to Google Rankings, it's important to find a keyword that is worth ranking for. One that has high traffic and low competition. Google has a great tool called Google keyword tool. It's FREE and easy to use. All you do is type in the word that you are targeting, and bam! It will show you how many people are actually searching for that term each month. #3 Google Rankings- Permalinks

Permalinks are what you see at the top of your browser. And when it comes to optimization, it's best to make sure your keyword is in that permalink.

For example, suchandsuch.com/Improve-Google-Rankings. Furthermore, make sure the keyword is in the title as well. Like if you're writing about network marketing, you want your title to look similar to this "Make money with network marketing." Or something along those lines. Just make sure your keyword is in the title.

Heads up. On all WordPress sites there is a location where you can add 'post tags.' Make sure you include your keyword in that tag. Warning: Do not use irrelevant tags. Stay relevant to your article, and whatever keyword you're ranking for. All the time I see people trying to rank for one keyword, but in their post tags they're using all the wrong words. If you want to just stay relevant and targeted to your keyword.

#4 Google Rankings - In your description

Make sure you use the keyword in the description of your article. This way when someone finds your article, and reads the description it will be an exact match to what they're searching for.

#5 Google Rankings - First and last paragraph

It's important to have your keyword in your first and last paragraph, but DO NOT OVERDO it. You have to be in a sweet spot. If you use your keyword too much then the search engines will think you're spamming, and you can kiss your Google rankings goodbye.Google Rankings

#6 Google Rankings - Emphasis

That alternate tag should be your keyword. You should also add a link in your image taking your prospects to a capture page if you have one. If you don't have one don't worry.

Lately, because there is so much competition on the market for typical keywords, the focus has shifted to using long tail keywords. For example, instead of using "pasta" as you keyword, you would use "pasta with red clam sauce." The logic in using long tail keywords is that there should be less competition for more exact keywords through the search engine.

Don't be a content farm

As mentioned earlier, Google's focus is improving the quality of its search engine for its users. If you are running a site that is keyword focused with little or no relevant information on the particular subject, you may find yourself banned by Google. The Google search algorithm may not be able to differentiate true content from well-disguised useless information, but its users can. The more complaints there are about being driven to advertisement-heavy Web sites, the more likely your content farm will be shut out from the rankings.

How To Target Money Keywords The Right Way

There is no denying that SEO is huge. Forget about paid traffic, in my opinion, ranking organically for certain words and phrases gives you the best ROI. Not that there isn't a place for paid traffic, but getting it to convert well and profitably can take just as much work and effort as ranking organically in the search engines. The big question is "how do I pick words that generate traffic and convert to sales?" The three steps outlined below will get you targeted daily traffic and sales if you do it right.

Search for words with high amounts of traffic

It goes without saying that without traffic there will be no sales, but conversely, you can generate high amounts of untargeted traffic and stumble upon a few sales. Here is how to pick the right keywords with high amounts of traffic.

Use the Google keyword tool to do a general search on a term. Google will generate related keywords below your search term along with a monthly search volume for each related keyword. Needless to say, the higher the search volume the better the keyword. I will usually narrow down my keywords to those that get at least 3,000 searches per month. Any less and it may not be worth the effort.

In total I will look for at least 2-3 keywords that generate at least 3,000 global monthly searches. This will ensure that I get targeted traffic to my site on a daily basis.

Do a bit more research for low competition

Unfortunately, just finding a keyword with high amounts of traffic is not enough. We also have to assess the level of competition. Google determines each page's value by assigning a page rank which is measured on a scale from 1-10, 10 being the highest value. As part of your search for finding a money keyword, you will want to select the jackpot keywords with high amounts of traffic and low levels of competition.

Google not only supplies the total monthly searches, but in the adjacent column they also provide a guideline for the level of competition. In my experience, this is a skewed value and not very reliable for measuring the true competition I will be facing. In this case I use a free web browser tool for Firefox called SEO Quake which can be found at seoquake.com.

How do I use SEO Quake? This tool gives me a better, microscopic picture of the strength of my competition. It will list the page rank for each site, which is something Google AdWords does not do. I will take the average page rank of the first 10 listings and see if I have a chance of getting first page rankings. If the average is above a 3, I will move on and search for a different word or phrase. If the average page rank is below a 3 I will go for it, and anything under a 2 will give you a huge opportunity for you to get ranked on the first page within a short period of time. The lower the average page rank, the faster I jump on it!

High AdWords value

We have already done the bulk of the work by performing the first two steps, but just to make sure, we will go one step further. Google provides a Cost Per Click value which can give us insight into the monetary value of the word. This is icing on the cake, and definitely something I take into consideration when picking a keyword.

Essentially, AdWords is a marketplace where people bid on values of keywords. As an example, "buy an iPad" will have a greater value than "iPad weight". This is because advertisers generate more money from "buy an iPad" and are willing to pay more to get a visitor to their site.

The same principle applies to your keywords - the greater the CPC value, the more revenue you can expect to generate. Targeting the highest priced keywords is not always the smartest move, though. To get the best value, you will want to multiply the total monthly searches by its CPC value. This will give you an overall value of the word. You will find that sometimes words with a lower CPC value will get you more monthly revenue simply because it gets more monthly searches.

Use these three simple steps to pick your money keywords and you will see how effectively it works. Simply rinse and repeat and you can have multiple sites generating free traffic and revenue for years to come. Whether your strategy is article marketing, Facebook marketing or SEO, any successful marketer will tell you that the key to your success is implementing your new found knowledge.
