3 Tips for Getting More Traffic to Your Website

By Karri Hull

Expert Author Karri Hull

Don't Make the Main Theme of Your Website too Broad. If you ever want to have a chance on getting your website ranked on the first page of Google, you should never build a website that has too broad of a topic. Remember, most of the sites that are in the top Google spots for broad topic themes have been peak optimized by top SEO professional, have been around for years and thus have thousands of quality link backs all over the web, and probably have dozens of pages of quality, keyword rich content throughout the site. The chances of you coming along and displacing them are nearly impossible. However, by concentrating your site on a main theme niche keyword, and then use your other keywords as category keywords, your chances become very good to be found on the first page of Google for your theme topic. For example, if you were going to build a website in the weight-loss industry, you might choose the "Losing Weight Through Aerobic Exercise" as your main theme keyword. Then you would search for other keywords related to this to write your content pages around that.
Make sure that your keywords are all relevant. By relevant keywords I mean those that come together to form a cohesive assembly of topics, almost like an instruction manual containing individual chapters and topics. Your goal is to build your blog or website around your main theme keywords. For instance if you are in the protection dog training business, using keywords in your website that have to do with boarding your dog, cleaning your dog's teeth, or housetraining your dog, wouldn't be relevant..However, if you were building a website about dog training, you could create content around keywords such as puppy training guides, dog training collars, etc. Relevancy is an important in Google's algorithm factoring when ranking the order and importance of websites. And if you can get listed on the first page of Google you'll definitely be getting more traffic to your website.
Make sure your keywords are being searched and don't have too much other competition. Google has an awesome tool called the Google Keyword Tool that you should always use before deciding on your keywords, to see how many times per month, if any, your keyword ideas are being searched. What makes total sense to you, might not be a popular term that people are searching for at all. And if nobody's searching for it, then writing content rich with that term won't help people find you. And if there are millions of other websites based around the same keywords, you're going to have a harder time still. The rule of thumb is to find keywords that have a competition factor of less than 15,000 in the Google search results.

I hope this has cleared up some of issues involving getting your site ranked higher on Google, and that soon you will indeed be getting much more traffic to your website.
